An effective way to improve your Spanish speaking and auditory word recognition. The app has a few frustrating issues but when it works as intended, it's a wonderful experience.
I'd feel comfortable ordering my favorite coffee in Spanish after some time with it. A decent app, but it needs further development.
I love the idea of learning a language by interacting with a realistic AI and that is what the Jumpspeak app provides.
I can have a complete conversation with an app, and if my pronunciation is incorrect, I’m given instant feedback. For auditory learners, the concept of this app is amazing. For those with hearing problems, it can be a little difficult.
I think a system where a text bubble with the Spanish and English words would help me accurately pronounce the words and learn visually.
Although other apps such as Duolingo have speech recognition, Jumpspeak focuses predominantly on it.
The Jumpspeak app is free for the first 7 days, and then costs $9.99 per month, $69.99 for a twelve month subscription or $299 for a lifetime membership.
It’s an in-app purchase, with Apple Pay or credit card payments available. I personally do not like this form of “free trial” as the onus is on you to remember to email the company to cancel the subscription if you do not want to continue using it.
One of the main issues with Jumpspeak is the bugginess: I had problems signing up through the actual app and had to create an account through the website. Additionally, it worked well for a while, but then started having issues.
For example: after a couple of lessons it developed a problem where some of the dialogue boxes stop speaking.
One of the problems of learning a new language is getting the opportunity to use it everyday. What I love about Jumpspeak is that it provides with opportunity. Also, allows you to practice Spanish at your own level, without feeling silly in an actual real-life context.
Despite the benefits of learning at your own pace, there is one point of frustration. Being able to save your progress during the middle of a lesson is currently impossible.
If you’re interrupted in the middle of a lesson, you have to start from the beginning of the lesson. This can be a deterrent to starting a lesson.
Overall, it’s a great concept and a decent app but too buggy and overpriced.
